CA EMSA Epinephrine Auto injector Training Course — San Marcos, CA

Medic First is CA Emergency Medical Services Authority Approved Program

The epinephrine certification card issued by the EMSA allows an individual (lay-person or off-duty EMS personnel,) to obtain a prescription for and administer an epinephrine auto-injector to a person experiencing anaphylaxis, with civil liability protection. State law allows physicians to prescribe epinephrine auto-injectors to businesses and the general public after completion of proper training and certification.

Students will learn;

• Understanding what Anaphylaxis is
• What causes Anaphylaxis
• What are the signs and symptoms of a reaction
• How to manage anaphylaxis at our workplace
• Practice using an EpiPen auto-injector, and a Lineage auto-injector for epinephrine
• Indications
• Contraindications
• Adverse effects
• Administration by Auto-Injector
• Dosing
• Drug Actions
• Proper storage, handling, and disposal of used/or expired injectors.
• Good Samaritan Law
• Consent Law
• Emergency Care Plans
• Activation of the EMS system by calling 9-1-1
• Commonly available models of epi auto-injectors
• Record keeping requirements as specified in Section 1000045(b)

Certification authorizes the general public, or Lay Rescuer, and off-duty EMS personnel to administer auto- injector epinephrine within California.

Certification does not replace any training or policy/protocols required by the local EMS Agencies (LEMSA) related to the use of auto-injectors within their jurisdictions for EMS Personnel who are on duty.

Upon course completion, students receive a Medic First Epinephrine Autoinjector training program document signed by the class instructor and are eligible to apply for CA EMSA Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification.
