Blended Learning with In-Person, Instructor-Led Skills Session

The Health & Safety Institute (HSI) CPR, AED, and First Aid course combines self-paced online learning with an in-person, instructor-led skills session for a flexible and practical certification experience.

Participants first complete the HSI online learning portion at their own pace, then meet with a CPR By Jeremy instructor for hands-on practice and skills evaluation at their home, workplace, school, or facility. HSI’s blended format specifically combines online cognitive learning with an in-person skills session led by an authorized instructor. 

During the course, participants learn and practice how to:

• Perform CPR for adults, children, and infants
• Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
• Respond to choking emergencies
• Provide first aid for bleeding, burns, allergic reactions, sudden illness, and other common emergencies
• Recognize medical and injury emergencies and provide appropriate care until additional help arrives

This course is ideal for teachers, coaches, childcare providers, workplace employees, fitness professionals, community members, and others who require certification or prefer the flexibility of blended learning while still receiving hands-on skills practice.

Ideal participants are advanced providers experienced in advanced cardiac care in both adults and pediatrics. HeartCode BLS and both ACLS & PALS student manuals are required (purchased separately). Successful completion is dependent on your performance and familiarity with the curricula. Remediation of skills or written exams are not performed on the same-day.

The American Heart Association’s ACLS course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, early and continuous high-quality CPR, and high-performing teams. The course reflects science and education from the 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

The Flipped format is most similar to a "flipped-classroom approach" where the didactic portion is completed online before class and the in-person session is more focused on the instruction of skills, scenarios, & testing. This course requires a 2025 student manual, completion of the mandatory precourse self-assessment, AND completion of the mandatory precourse work (videos) BEFORE class.

The BLS Providers course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages, including providing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device with oxygen, and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. The BLS Instructor Essentials Course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach AHA Instructor-led and blended learning BLS Provider courses. It educates instructor candidates on how to use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. The course covers core content and discipline-specific content required to teach AHA courses. This course includes alignment with AHA, training center, Instructor manual, Instructor teach-back at our location, unlimited shadowing and support and 2 year Instructor Certification Card.

HSI Adult, Child, and Infant CPR AED

The HSI Adult, Child, and Infant CPR AED course provides participants with the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiac arrest, breathing emergencies, and choking involving adults, children, and infants. Students will learn how to assess an emergency, activate emergency medical services, perform high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use an automated external defibrillator, and provide appropriate care for a responsive or unresponsive choking victim.

This instructor-led course includes demonstrations, guided practice, and skills evaluations using adult, child, and infant training mannequins and AED training devices. Participants must successfully demonstrate the required CPR, AED, and choking-response skills to complete the course.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive an HSI Adult, Child, and Infant CPR AED certification card that is valid for two years. This course is designed for individuals who are not healthcare providers or professional rescuers but who need or desire CPR and AED training for the workplace, caregiving, childcare, community involvement, or personal preparedness. Participants should confirm that HSI certification is accepted by their employer, school, licensing agency, or other organization before registering.

Estimated Course Length: Approximately 2½ to 3 hours. Actual completion time may vary based on class size, student participation, skills practice, and successful demonstration of required HSI competencies.

Certification Period: Two years.

This classroom, Instructor-led course uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. 

For healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements.

This course lasts approximately eight (8) hours.  This class is a one-day course.  

All students who successfully complete all requirements will receive their official American Heart Association PALS Provider via email using the AHA eCard system!  Your course completion card will be valid for a period of two (2) years from the date of your class.

All students are required to have a current AHA PALS Provider student manual (workbook) during the class day.  IF a student arrives at class without a student manual (workbook), they will be required to purchase one for the course or will be rescheduled to a later course.
