This instructor-led course is the gold standard for healthcare professionals. It teaches single-rescuer and team-based basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and prehospital settings.

Audience: Physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and other healthcare personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills.

This course reflects science from the 2025 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.

Ideal for healthcare providers who prefer the flexibility of completing the cognitive portion of the course online at their own pace. This session provides the hands-on skills practice and testing required to receive your BLS Provider card. 

Prerequisite: You must complete the online HeartCode BLS course prior to attending this in-person skills session. You will demonstrate high-quality CPR, AED use, and team dynamics to an instructor to receive your certification.

Medic First is CA Emergency Medical Services Authority Approved Program

The epinephrine certification card issued by the EMSA allows an individual (lay-person or off-duty EMS personnel,) to obtain a prescription for and administer an epinephrine auto-injector to a person experiencing anaphylaxis, with civil liability protection. State law allows physicians to prescribe epinephrine auto-injectors to businesses and the general public after completion of proper training and certification.

Certification authorizes the general public, or Lay Rescuer, and off-duty EMS personnel to administer auto- injector epinephrine within California.

Certification does not replace any training or policy/protocols required by the local EMS Agencies (LEMSA) related to the use of auto-injectors within their jurisdictions for EMS Personnel who are on duty.

Upon course completion, students receive a Medic First Epinephrine Autoinjector training program document signed by the class instructor and are eligible to apply for CA EMSA Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification.

Summary

This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to quickly assess recognize and care for cardiac arrest provide high-quality CPR and use an AED to optimize patient outcomes. Designed for both in-hospital and out-of-hospital healthcare clinicians this training is consistent with the 2025 evidence-based science guidelines and covers additional life-threatening emergencies including respiratory arrest drowning opioid overdose myocardial infarction life-threatening bleeding and obstructed airway in adults children and infants. Participants complete an online course followed by an in-person session led by an Instructor or self-directed solution that includes knowledge-based learning and hands-on skill practice. Participants are required to successfully complete the online course and final exam and demonstrate skill competency during skills practice and testing scenarios to earn an American Red Cross Basic Life Support certificate valid for two years.

Steps for the class

• You must have a current AHA BLS provider certification issued by the AHA, which has the AHA logo at the time of your class. No other programs are accepted (For example, the Red Cross or another certificate that mentions "meets AHA guidelines" or "equivalent to AHA"). If you do not have a current AHA BLS certification issued from the AHA, you can add the certification and complete it before the instructor's course. We will arrange to complete your certification prior to the day of your class.

• Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course. The registration confirmation email will include a link to your online course.

• Attend the in-person instructor's course.

The AHA’s BLS renewal course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course, updated to reflect the 2025 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC, teaches participants how to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies involving adults, children, and infants.

This blended learning course combines the official AHA HeartCode BLS online course with a personalized, instructor-led hands-on skills session conducted by CPR By Jeremy at your home, workplace, school, or facility.

During the course, participants will practice:

• High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
• Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
• Effective ventilations using barrier and bag-mask devices
